Well that was a bit of an extended rest wasn’t it? For you dear Blog
So where did we leave each other? Well I was crashing off into the spare hoarded room attempting to carve a bedroom out of it for Major Dragon to return to, since her original bedroom frightened the life out of me (and I am a dragon!) I did in fact, fill a people carrier with STUFF. So much stuff. A relative thankfully came and took it all to the dump for me.
…And it barely made a dent. *haunted expression*
It was bad. Really bad. I was flu-ey with pulled muscles in my back. And I did an excellent impression of a grieving statue on a coffin, over a box that was bigger than I am and about four times as heavy. I think I hoped the tears and snot would somehow dissolve it. No such luck though. Major Dragon stormed back to the Hoard a couple of weeks later insisting everything was FINE and took up angry residence on the couch since I had “wrecked” her bedroom (moved what I could from the hall and spare room and parked it in her original bedroom’s doorway while bedroom carving.)
This would be all of us at rock bottom. All exhausted. All sick. All really bloody cross with each other.
Would we survive it?
Well I hope you did and aren't writing from beyond the grave or in a cave somewhere! :-( I have foudn that no matter what you are quite right about the grieving statue method not actually doing a lot. Neither, I fear, does the 'throwing bits of metal pipe (/knitting machine/tapestry frame and then breaking things you didn't meant to break' method.
ReplyDeleteNope, still breathing (fire) :) Though the Hoard could easily be mistaken for a cave.
DeleteOh dear, sounds like you have been suffering a bit yourself there :S
Often! Although delightfully we are going to be moving soon and I decreed when I arranged to buy the new house that THE HOVEL WILL NOT BE COMING WITH US. So we have been making actual genuine progress - slowly but actual progress. Two years ago when trying to shift the junk I did actually have that *throwing bits of metal* paddy. Ended up poking a hole in my stereo system which was, you know, actually used and useful. It is still extemely slow going but at least there is some forward momentum. (fingers crossed we don't end up for more than six months with one house and one hovel to our names).
DeleteToday however we did have the setback when we discovered a giant cupboard in the yard right at the back and inside the cupboard my grandmother (also a hoarder, it runs in all of us) had filled with stuff and then put an old carpet and several other random things in the way to bloack off. Said stuff included: the cage I had for my hamster when I was thirteen, a pair of wellingtons, more empty boxes, now ruined and filthy, and several extention cables... *sigh*
Will cross everything for you. Remember you have made actual progress!
DeleteYou might've barely made a dent, but that's still a people carrier's worth of stuff that's AT THE DUMP. Well done. It's disheartening to not see progress, but you KNOW the stuff is less. At least as long as you can prevent it being replaced faster than it comes in :/
ReplyDeleteIt is like junk surfing. I am narrowly keeping ahead of the wave!
DeleteI wish I had taken a photo of the full carrier. But I didn't want to have any evidence that would annoy Major Dragon "you threw that out?! I HAD PLANS FOR IT"
I'm so happy to see another post.
ReplyDeleteI can't even imagine what it's like having to sift through so much shit -- especially when you live with it. I'd be tempted to just pitch it all.
I'm curious, though. Is Major Dragon even involved in this effort? I read your posts and worry that you battle this alone and invariably setting yourself up to be the bad guy when that is certainly not the case. Not many of us would care enough to even deal with it.
I hope that you're practicing good boundaries. :)
No, she is. Not as much before but this has been interesting year with a few changes.
DeleteThere are further entries to come about the last 4/5 months when things get a bit clearer! :)
